Hear us out: The best at-home lash extensions can easily replace those hours-long appointments at the salon. Unlike the false lashes you rocked back in high school, these stick around—some last up to two weeks, with proper care. How? Magnetic magic—i.e., a liquid liner that the lashes literally snap onto, or a super-strong glue. And most are lightweight, which not only feels more comfortable on your lids, but also helps them stay put longer. Ready to save money, skip the spa, and still get longer, natural-looking lashes? Here are our favorite picks that are easy to apply at home.

Why it’s worth it: Our current favorite at-home lash extensions is the Velour-Xtensions’ Self-Stick Lash Cluster Kit. It includes three cluster lengths that you can mix and match to create a custom look. Plus, each individual cluster comes with pre-glued bands, so you can skip the dreaded sticky glue situation entirely. Simply press them underneath your lashes (yes, under), and they blend in seamlessly for a natural, lifted look. No chunky lash line, no obvious strips—just fuller lashes that look like your own. They stay put all day exactly where you place them, but if you want to reuse them, you’ll have to reapply with lash glue (since the built-in adhesive is really a one-day deal).

“I've done my own at-home lash extensions once, so when I say I'm a beginner, I mean that, okay? But these extensions are so newbie-friendly that I didn't even need to watch any YouTube videos for tips. I love how natural-looking these lashes are and how soft they feel. Lashes can sometimes feel heavy on your eyelids, but not these! My only con is that the glue isn't the strongest, so be sure to have some on hand. Other than that, these extensions get a 10/10 from me.” —Melanie Curry, associate manager of audience development

Why it’s worth it: When a look calls for a more natural lash, we reach for the Lilac Street Dawn Natural Faux Eyelash Clusters. The brand’s most subtle style, these lash strips come in four lengths, from barely-there wisps to a fuller, fluttery finish. Each band has just 10 evenly spaced clusters that blend in perfectly with your own.

These lashes can last up to seven days, compared to standard strip lashes that usually stick around for just 24 hours. Application takes about 10 minutes (maybe closer to 20 if you’re new to clusters). And, if they don’t line up to your lash line exactly, a quick trim lets you easily shape them to your eyes. At just $11 a kit, we deem these as a bang-for-your-buck essential for days you want to zhuzh up your look.

The brand also offers both Intro and Deluxe Starter Kits if that’s more your speed—the main difference being the number of lashes and accessories. The Deluxe set includes more styling options and products for lash longevity, while the Intro kit is a simpler starter option.

“In both of my trials with these natural-looking lashes, the outermost segment of lash from my left eye fell off on the first night (probably thanks to the combo of me being worse at applying to my left eye and because I'm a stomach sleeper). However, once I reapplied that section, nothing budged for the next four days. I'm guessing I'm an average user in terms of upkeep: I don't wear a ton of makeup every day, so I also don't need to use a ton of makeup remover to get it off, but I also honestly couldn't will myself to spend extra time using the special lash cleanser, which likely would help me get those two extra days of wear.”—Kara McGrath, content director

Why it’s worth it: A 2023 Best of Beauty winner, the Pro Lash Classic Luxe Wispy No.15 lashes are light, airy, and hold up for days. Our editors love their elegant taper—a.k.a. they’re shorter on the inner corner and longer on the outer corner, for that eye-opening effect—that makes eyes look more defined without that overdone, ‘just hopped off the stage’ look.

These lashes come in two versions: Prowear is more secure and durable, comes with pre-applied adhesive, and lasts up to 10 days. Meanwhile, Softwear is lighter, requires lash adhesive, and lasts up to seven days. Applying Softwear is surprisingly simple: Brush the adhesive onto your lashes like mascara, place the strip under your natural lashes, starting at the inner corner, then crimp with tweezers to activate the glue. If your lashes pop off, just reapply the adhesive and crimp them again.

Why it’s worth it: With Kiss’ Falscara Studio Lash Extension Kit, you can mix and match three wisp designs, three band widths, and three lash lengths for endless looks that last for up to two weeks (you read that right). Don’t worry—they’re so lightweight, you’ll forget they’re even on, even when stacked for a fuller look. The clusters also slide under your natural lashes, so you never have to worry about a wonky lash line. Their long-lasting powers come from the included water-resistant seal and BondBoost formula, which you can brush on to get more wear out of them. Many lash extensions can be worn for multiple days at a time, but it’s important to consistently remove and clean them to avoid irritation—the included Hydro Cleanser makes taking them off quick and gentle.

Why it’s worth it: If you're a fan of Glamnetic's easy-to-use press-on nails, we have a good feeling you'll also be into the brand’s lashes, which are equally effortless to apply. Instead of a sticky adhesive, they use magnets for a mess-free experience. All you need is the magnetic eyeliner (sold separately): Apply it like a regular liner—yes, it’s dark enough for your signature cat eye—then, snap the lash on. The lashes last all day, are wind-, water-, and sweat-resistant, and can be reused up to 60 times.

    Frequently Asked Questions

What are at-home lash extensions made of?

When false lashes first hit the scene in the late 19th century, they were mostly made from human hair or mink fur. Today, cruelty-free beauty practices have taken over, and most lashes are crafted from synthetic materials designed to mimic the look and feel of the real thing—including silk, human hair, and mink alternatives.

What users with sensitive skin or eyes typically react to, however, isn’t the lashes themselves but the adhesive. Many lash glues contain ingredients like formaldehyde-releasing preservatives, latex, or acrylates, which can cause irritation. If you want to be sure about what you’re putting near your eyes—or you’re sensitive to either synthetic fibers or adhesives—always check the product label, patch test first, or reach out to the brand for a full ingredient list.

What are the easiest lashes to apply yourself?

The most beginner-friendly lash extensions we’ve tested are from Glamnetic because you don’t need a separate, quick-drying adhesive. Instead, the brand’s own magnetic liquid liner does double duty: Draw your cat-eye as usual, and the built-in magnets in the lashes stick right onto the liner. Once they’re on, they stay put until you remove them—no slipping or sliding. In our experience, the application process takes just a few minutes.

Using the right tool is also key to applying lashes at home, makeup artist Gita Bass previously told Allure. She swears by a long, angled tool to get the job done. “Once you’ve applied the lash, turn the tool around and use the back edge to gently press the lash in place.” However, like false lashes themselves, applicators come in a variety of shapes and sizes, and you may need to shop around to see which one feels most comfortable for you.

How we test and review products

When Allure tests a product, our editors look at it from every angle in an effort to best serve you. We review ingredients, scrutinize brand claims, and, when necessary, examine peer-reviewed scientific and medical studies. In addition to testing each and every product that’s included in each and every review, we rely on experts who shape their fields, including dermatology, cosmetic chemistry, and medicine, to help us vet the ingredients and formulas.

For our list of the best at-home lash extensions, we considered each product’s performance across five primary categories: product ingredients and efficacy, packaging, fragrance, texture, and product wear. Every product was determined to have excelled in each category by our editorial team, which is composed of in-house writers and editors as well as contributors—along with special consideration from dermatologists. To learn more information on our reporting and testing processes, read our complete reviews process and methodology page.

    Our staff and testers

A beauty product is a personal purchase. You might be searching for a face cream to address persistent dryness or a new nail product to add to your Sunday self-care routine; you may simply be browsing around for the latest launches to hit the hair market. No matter what you seek or your individual needs and concerns, Allure wants to ensure that you love anything we recommend in our stories. We believe that having a diverse team of writers and editors—in addition to the wide range of outside testers and industry experts we regularly call upon—is essential to reaching that goal.

After all, can we really say a skin-care product is the "best" for people over 50 if the only testers we’ve solicited opinions from folks who have yet to hit 30? Can we honestly deem a high-end diffuser worthy of your hard-earned cash if it’s never been tested on curls? We’re proud that our staff spans a wide range of ages, skin tones, hair textures, genders, and backgrounds, which means that we are able to fairly assess any beauty product that comes into the beauty closet.
